As part of the Reel Time Series, looking for ways to Change our mind to Change our Time… Time Grows on Tress.. How about that?!

This is a pretty easy way to feel that you have more time. Getting outdoors.   Found an interesting article called “Time grows on trees: The effect of nature settings on time perception.” This was from the Journal of Environmental Psychology  form Science Direct.

Time spent on a walk in a nature setting was overestimated compared to actual time.

Time spent on a walk in an urban setting was estimated accurately.

Time felt slower in nature than in man-made settings.

Taking a walk in nature (vs. urban setting) increased mood, decreased stress.

Simple but effective. I’d add that the time walking outside also calms the mind by looking at farther distances.  Seeing layers of leaves and branches, watching light refractions, reflections and shadows sparks the brain and I think entertains it as a soothing break from the computer screen or the mundane views of daily life indoors.
